Coldplay has some Minty Freshness

July 1, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I am in the midst of losing my mind.  It’s July and work is terribly slow for me.  Not that I’m complaining about all the downtime, but I feel like a useless piece of shit as I sit in my office patrolling YouTube for the next quick fix.  I mean, I do have things that I could do (like write a proposal) but none are pressing and I am a notoriously bad procrastinater – so why change now?

The band that I manage, The Mint, is doing quite well as of recently and that’s keeping me busy on in my off-hours. It is exciting to think that maybe someday, managing a band could be my full time gig that pays the bills.  Like Ari says in ENTOURAGE, “always control your client’s expectations.”  Well somebody needs to maintain mine.

For those that don’t know yet, The Mint just got a 2nd placement on MTV’s THE REAL WORLD: HOLLYWOOD - this time it is on their final episode.  Now most bands would have a massive hard-on (excuse my analogy) if their music was placed on a national show … and for the most part, we had one when we discovered that MTV was placing a song on an episode back in May.  But since then, much has happened … including an invitation to play on the Vans Warped Tour in Philly and a whole bunch of show offers.  We have even been approached by the entertainment lawyers that rep Live and Fuel, and they want to meet with us to talk about them repping us.

This second placement on MTV, albeit exciting, has raised our expectations and the most difficult thing is to try to keep it in check.  The goal is to get through these exciting times and most importantly — ride the wave and hopefully capitalize on it with new connections and hopefully new doors opening for the band.

We just entered ourselves into a contest that could lead to us potentially opening up for Coldplay.  Send good thoughts our way!

Speaking of COLDPLAY.

I bought their new CD Viva La Vida off of iTunes yesterday … and I love it!  You can tell that they spent a good bit of time thinking about each song as it is refreshingly unique and very daring.  It has such a great sound that is very Coldplay.  My favorite song so far is “Lost.”  It has such haunting melodies and the opening with the drums is powerful.  Go get it and then get The Mint!
